Betfair Triple Crown Month 3

Betfair Triple Crown

Play in the MTT period of the Betfair Triple Crown from February 5th-18th!

Do you see yourself as a jack of all trades at the poker table? If so, then it’s time to stake your claim to the Betfair Triple Crown!

Over the next six months we’ll be challenging your poker skills in three different disciplines – sit-and-gos, cash games and multi-table tournaments – with $1,500 of prize money up for grabs in each playing period.

If you do well in all three disciplines over the six months you’ll also be in with a shot of finishing on the Triple Crown leaderboard and taking down a share of an additional $3,000!

What’s more, the competition is only open to PokerPlayer and PokerPlayer.co.uk readers, giving you a great chance of winning some cash. If you’ve ever been involved in a Betfair promotion in PokerPlayer before you will automatically be entered into the Triple Crown promotion. But if you haven’t, don’t worry – go to www.triplecrown.betfair.com and follow the instructions to opt-in.

Congratulations to gnasher8, who cruised to first place in the first month of sit-and-gos. He also goes top of the Triple Crown leaderboard with 80 points, but there’s a long way to go with five more months of competition left to tally. We’ll have the cash leaderboard next month where we should see some different names in the money and the overall leaderboard will start to take shape. Remember, it only takes one big month to see your name shoot up the Triple Crown leaderboard.

MTT Tips

Become a multi-table tournament wizard with help from these five quick tips

1 In the early stages pay close attention to as many of your opponents as possible and try to establish which are loose or tight, good or bad. You should be able to identify the weaker opponents in the first few levels.

2 Position is much more important in MTTs than cash games as your chips are more valuable – once they’re gone, you’re out! Look to play only premium hands from early position as you’ll spew chips if you play marginal holdings.

3 As a rule you should always look to enter a pot for a raise or a reraise. Calling is weak and hands the initiative to your enemy. C-betting is highly effective in shallow-stacked tourneys so raise in and c-bet at will.

4 In the later stages when the blinds are large in relation to stacks you should look to steal more from late position. But you should also make your raises smaller so you risk less – between 2x and 2.5x is fine.

5 In most MTTs the majority of the prize money goes to the top three places. As such tournaments are about chip accumulation not survival. It’s fine to take a few risks in the middle/bubble stages in order to build a big stack.
