Phil Ivey, always the WPT bridesmaid, never the bride

Phil Ivey, always the WPT bridesmaid, never the bride

Most WPT final tables without a title win

1. Phil Ivey (6)

Phil Ivey has achieved a lot in just a few years. He beat one of poker’s legends, Amarillo Slim, to win his first WSOP bracelet in a game he’d barely played before; he’s established himself as a key fixture of the Bellagio’s Big Game and is acknowledged as one of the poster boys of the poker movement. But he still hasn’t won a WPT title. Six final table finishes, but still no cigar (or bracelet). He’ll get over it.

2. John Juanda (5)

Malaysian born John Juanda comes a close second to fellow Full Tilt player Ivey. Five final tables have helped him to rake in nearly $1m in WPT cash but his first title remains elusive.

3. Ted Forrest (3)

Forrest is one of the most highly-rated cash game players in the world, has won five WSOP bracelets, but still hasn’t managed to close out the final stage of a WPT event.

4. Kathy Liebert (3)

One of the most successful female players ever is still striving in vain to take down a WPT tourney, despite six top 10 finishes.

5. Phil Hellmuth (3)

Record number of WSOP bracelets? Tick. One of the biggest names in the game? Tick. WPT title winner? Cross (and yes, he probably is).

Others who have made three final tables with no joy: Humberto Brenes, John D’Agostino, Men ‘The Master’ Nguyen, and David Pham
