Jake Cody Wins WPT London

22-year-old Brit Jake Cody has won the WPT London Poker Classic for £273,783. It's a second huge tournament win in 2010 for the hoodie-wearing Mancunian after he first burst onto the live scene by winning EPT Deauville in January for €847,000. If Cody can now add a WSOP bracelet to his resume he will become only the third player to win poker's triple crown of EPT, WPT and WSOP titles - after Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe.

Last week's London Poker Classic marked the first time that the WPT has staged a tournament in the UK. Despite big names such as Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel and Huck Seed entering the event, the final table was bereft of star power apart from the aggressive Cody. Fourth place finisher Kristoffer Thorsson just missed out on a $1m bonus from event sponsors PartyPoker if he had won, an extra incentive given to all players that qualified from the site.

High stakes online player Justin 'BoostedJ' Smith won the £15,000 High Roller event at the WPT, besting Tony G heads-up to collect £141,000. Only 14 players registered for the event. This disappointing number is sure to have been influenced by the upcoming WSOPE, English Poker Open and EPT London, all of which are to be held in the capital over the next month.
