Historic poker site PokerRoom.com has closed down after 10 years

PokerRoom.com, one of the internet's first online poker sites, closed its doors this week. All existing players are being encouraged to cash out or transfer their accounts over to bwin Poker.

PokerRoom started out in 1999 long before the rise of today's superpowers such as Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars. It was a true pioneer of the poker industry in many ways, from being amongst the first to offer variants such as Omaha and seven-card Stud to being one of the only poker clients available for use on a Mac.

The closure of PokerRoom follows hot on the heels of BugsysClub.com which was bought out by PokerStars in the last month. It seems that the state of the economy is having a large impact on online poker and that PokerRoom.com is just the latest casualty.
