The results are in. PokerStars - the world’s largest online poker site - has shattered the Guinness World Record for ‘Largest Online Poker Tournament’.

On Sunday December 28, 2008, 35,000 players played the $11 buy-in world record tournament with PokerStars guaranteeing a $500,000 prize pool. The tournament, which sold out well in advance, played for over 9.5 hours with and a record 8,750 players hitting the money. No deals were made and Stan34powa outlasted 34,999 players to win the world’s largest-ever tournament and $30,000. PokerStars had set the previous record with a field of 20,000 players in the Sunday Hundred Grand on July 29, 2007.

It was a weekend of landmarks during the PokerStars ‘World Record Week’.
