WSOP 2009 | Brock 't soprano' Parker wins second Bracelet

After coming from nowhere just a few days ago to defeat Daniel Negreanu heads-up in the $ 2,500 Six Handed Limit Hold'em, Brock Parker last night completed an amazing double by winning the $ 2,500 Six Handed No Limit Hold'em event.

It means that within the space of a week Parker has won two WSOP bracelets, $ 775,000 and is now the frontrunner for the coveted WSOP Player of the Year title.

Parker may have been a bit of an unknown in live circles before the Series but, playing under the handle 't soprano', he is something of an online legend. His online background may well have something to do with the fact that both of his bracelets have come in the supremely aggressive six handed format.

Playing short handed requires players to open up their starting hand ranges significantly as they are in the blinds a lot higher percentage of the time. Brock said in an interview after his second victory that, 'playing nine handed is pretty boring. I guess six handed gets me more motivated because I get to play in a lot of pots'.

For a long while at this final table, it was as if Parker wasn't there, settling quietly into the middle of the pack. While players such as Joe Serock were busy blasting away and trying to accumulate a giant chiplead, Parker sat back and waited for his chance to come when heads-up.

While Parker went into the heads-up at a 2:1 chip deficit to Serock he was able to turn the tide around before a cooler hand decided the tournament - Serock shoving 10-10 into the pocket queens of Parker pre-flop. The queens held up and the WSOP had its first double bracelet winner of 2009.
