There used to be a time when the World Poker Tour was ruling the world, hosting great poker tournaments across the Atlantic and creating new stars such as Gus Hansen, Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Laak. This DVD takes you back to those glorious days, before the EPT stole a bit of their thunder away...
This special one-off show from 2004 sees those three players alongside UK legend Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, Ving Rhames look-a-like Paul Darden and, strangely, some unknown amateur battlling for the Bad Boys of Poker title.
While it may be arguable that there is anything 'bad' about Esfandiari except for his little moustache, this show is actually fairly entertaining even if very, very dated. The only problem is that the stakes they are playing for are pretty irrelevant compared to usual WPT standards which means you see some ridiculous plays that undermine the tournament a little.
WPT Bad Boys of Poker can't really be recommended as an exhibition of great poker but if you want to see how some of today's stars made their names then it is fairly interesting. It's just a shame though that the really good televised poker, such as High Stakes Poker and the World Series of Poker haven't yet found their way to UK DVD. If you compare WPT Bad Boys of Poker to them, you'll see that it's actually really, really bad.
