Boy n the hood
Laak's shower shuffle

Using a bit of reverse psychology can pay dividends at the table

Laak has developed a play he calls the ‘shower shuffle’ (conceived in a ‘Eureka!’ moment while he was showering). He says you need to execute it in a no-limit cash game when you’re dealt Ace-x suited and make the nut flush. You know your opponent’s in love with his hand (a flush or a set) but feel that he’ll fold to any all-in move.

After you move all-in, you show your opponent just one card – the suited Ace – leaving the guy to believe that you don’t have the flush but most probably a big pair with top kicker instead.

Laak has done this twice and it’s worked – after a certain degree of musing from his opponent – on both occasions. He says it’s because your opponent wants to call – all you have to do is give him a good reason. Just don’t try it at your local Working Men’s Club – you might end up getting a good kicking.

1. A touch of the Kiefer Sutherland? Lose the glasses and some of the hair and we reckon Laak could pass for Jack Bauer
