Poker Players: Player Interviews

A kind of magic
Loving the ladies

Antonio fancies himself, but what about the competition?

It’s pretty clear to see Antonio Esfandiari fancies himself as a bit of a ladies’ man – the kind of guy who hits the dance fl oor before picking up the girls that other men dream about. Considering that most of his fellow gamblers prefer prop-betting to chickpulling, we thought it would be interesting to have Esfandiari handicap the competition.

‘Poker players are not always smooth or charismatic; in fact, most of them are weenies,’ he declares. ‘Only a few are very good with the girls. Gus [Hansen] is good. David Williams is excellent. Patrik Antonius and Mel Buchen are very good. Generally, though, I don’t see poker players being aggressive enough with girls. They’re kind of shy and too accustomed to people coming up to them.’
