The gambler in de Wolfe explains why he hates to play with nits

De Wolfe is a positive guy. But when you ask him what he hates, he answers with no hesitation: rocks and nits. ‘You’ve got to give action,’ he says. ‘I hate people who just sit there. It’s fair enough if you’ve got to earn a living for your family. But I hate people who play quite high – so they can afford it – but they never give action and always want the best of the deal. It’s like Ted Forrest says, sometimes you have to take the losing side or at least take an even proposition.’

Asked to put his money where his mouth is, de Wolfe fi res back immediately. ‘Phil Ivey and I both agreed to go all-in on one hand [while playing heads-up online] for $8,000 and I won. We just did that for the hell of it. You can’t always take the best of things. You can’t always have the nuts.’
