COURSES WITH ADDED DRAW

So which are the UK racecourses where the draw can influence the outcome of a race - and thereby give savvy punters an extra edge?

1. A racecourse with one of the most pronounced advantages in sprint races anywhere in the UK. The five-furlong sprint course involves a very stiff climb to the winning post. When the stalls are placed over on the far rail, those drawn high have a major advantage.

2. In five-furlong sprints at this tightest of UK racecourses (it's just a mile in circumference), the lower the draw, the better. Tear your betting slip up now if your selection is drawn in double figures.

3. In big (16-plus runner) races over a mile, a high draw is often a considerable advantage at this Sussex course. Newmarket (July course) When the ground is on the quick side and the stalls are placed on the stands-side of the track, horses drawn high are often the main beneficiaries.

4. The majority of races at Sandown are run on its round course. But five-furlong sprints are run on a separate track which often seem to favour horses drawn high. That's possibly because of the presence of a strip of ground alongside the far running rail which just runs that bit quicker than elsewhere down the course.

5. As the recent Royal Ascot meeting staged here confirmed, a single-figure draw in big-field races which are run between seven and ten furlongs is usually a significant advantage.
